Se sensibilizó a la comunidad sobre la gestión responsable de los desechos sólidos
El Seibo, República Dominicana, 19 de mayo de 2021. Con motivo de la celebración del Día Mundial del Reciclaje, en coordinación con la Alcaldía de Miches y el proyecto El Seibo Resiliente, se realizó una jornada de limpieza en playa Los Mameyes, sitio seleccionado para sensibilizar a la comunidad sobre la importancia del reciclaje y así mitigar los impactos negativos que tiene el mal manejo de los residuos sólidos sobre el ambiente y la salud de los ecosistemas.
Para Los Mameyes, la pesca constituye la principal fuente de ingresos, por lo que la contaminación de la zona tiene un efecto directo en esta comunidad. Por ello, durante la jornada de saneamiento, se impartió una charla para concientizarlos sobre cómo deben manejarse los residuos sólidos, explicándoles los efectos negativos del plástico en el mar y el daño que ocasiona a los arrecifes de coral, ecosistema donde habitan una gran cantidad de especies.
El Día Mundial del Reciclaje se celebra cada 17 de mayo para crear conciencia acerca de la importancia de tratar correctamente los desechos. En esa línea, El Seibo Resiliente busca crear sinergias con el proyecto Caribe Circular de la GIZ y el Ayuntamiento de Miches para impulsar acciones que promuevan la correcta gestión de residuos plásticos en el municipio, prevenir que estos residuos lleguen al mar y establecer un piloto para el desarrollo del programa “Miches libre de plástico”.
El proyecto El Seibo Resiliente es una iniciativa del Ministerio de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales de la República Dominicana, financiada por la Unión Europea (UE), cofinanciada por el Ministerio Federal Alemán de Cooperación Económica y Desarrollo (BMZ), e implementada por la GIZ.
